Barnes, Emery Oakland


BARNES, Emery Oakland, social worker, politician (b 15 Dec 1929, New Orleans, LA; d 1 July 1998, Vancouver). A high jumper on the 1952 US Olympic team, he came to VANCOUVER in 1957 to play football for the BC LIONS. At the same time he studied social work at UBC, and when he retired from football in 1964 he became a social worker. He also ran a nightclub in HARRISON HOT SPRINGS. In 1972 he was elected to the legislature for the NDP for the riding of Vancouver–Burrard, and he served as an MLA...
