KATZIE  () are a Downriver Mainland HALKOMELEM First Nation occupying 3 RESERVES in PITT MEADOWS, BARNSTON ISLAND and LANGLEY. Their traditional territory encompasses PITT LK and the valley of the Pitt R. There are about 460 Katzie, about 300 of whom live on the reserves. They are closely related to the STO:LO Nation of the FRASER VALLEY. The name Katzie derives from Q'eyts'I, the aboriginal word for a type of MOSS....
