MacLean, Alexander


MacLEAN, Alexander, sealing captain (b 15 May 1858, Cape Breton, NS; d 26 Aug 1914, Vancouver). He was already an experienced seafarer when he arrived in VICTORIA in 1881. Along with his brother Dan he became one of the most successful captains in the pelagic FUR SEAL hunt based in Victoria Harbour that flourished in the 1890s.
