Maritime Museum of BC


MARITIME MUSEUM OF BC was established as a naval museum on Signal Hill in ESQUIMALT in 1954. It moved to its present site in the former VICTORIA Law Courts Building on Bastion Square in downtown Victoria in 1965. There is a legend that the court building—designed by H.O. TIEDEMANN, opened in 1889 and remodelled by Francis RATTENBURY in 1900—is haunted by a convict who was imprisoned by Judge Matthew BEGBIE. Part of the building is again being used for court cases.
