Shuswap & Okanagan Railway


SHUSWAP & OKANAGAN RAILWAY was incorporated in 1886 to build a line from the CPR mainline at SICAMOUS to OKANAGAN LK near VERNON. Major promoters included J.A. MARA, J.H. TURNER (later premier of BC), Moses Lumby, F.S. BARNARD (later lt gov of BC), Forbes VERNON and R.P. RITHET. The 82-km line, leased by the CPR, was completed in 1892.
