SQUAMISH FIRST NATION  () , a division of the Central Coast Salish people (see SALISHAN FIRST NATIONS), occupied several traditional village sites in HOWE SOUND and up the drainage of the SQUAMISH and CHEAKAMUS rivers. By about 1850 they also had replaced the MUSQUEAM (now X'muzk'i'um) people in BURRARD INLET.
