Wistaria

WISTARIA, a scattered rural settlement on the north side of OOTSA LK 58 km southwest of BURNS LAKE, was first settled about 1907. Trapping, cattle and sheep ranching (see CATTLE INDUSTRY), fur farming and LOGGING have all been important to the local economy. Cyril Shelford, a former resident and cabinet minister during W.A.C. BENNETT's SOCIAL CREDIT regime, claims that Wistaria was chosen as a name after Banana, the first choice, was rejected by postal authorities.
