Helmcken Falls

HELMCKEN FALLS, 137 m, is a spectacular WATERFALL on the Murtle R in WELLS GRAY PROVINCIAL PARK, the fifth-highest falls in BC and one of the main attractions of the park. A government surveyor came upon it in 1913 and named it for J.S. HELMCKEN, first Speaker of the LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY. In winter it sometimes freezes into a massive ice cone. It has been featured on the cover of telephone books.
