While helping out with the production of this book, diver/photographer Charlie Gibbs of Port Coquitlam, BC, found several specimens of this mysterious white anemone at about 30 m (100 ft) near Pender Harbour, BC. He exposed a significant amount of film in order to get just the right exposure for this white, somewhat featureless animal—a photographic challenge.
For more than 35 years, Dr. Daphne Fautin, a sea anemone enthusiast and professor at the University of Kansas, has been diligently documenting and describing Pacific Northwest species. She has published numerous significant papers in various scientific publications, and her goal is to produce a comprehensive atlas of these colourful creatures. Her help with this portion of the book is most appreciated.
