If you would like to search the entire KnowBC database, use the SEARCH ALL box located at the top right of any page.
If you would like to search several, but not all the titles, use the Advanced Search button on the top right of every page. Click on the box adjacent to the resources you want to search. Additionally, each resources' home page has a search window in the main window. Just type in the search term and only that resource will be searched.
You can see where you are on the site by looking at the "breadcrumbs," which is the series of links that begins "You are here:" above the title of the page you are on. You may click anywhere on the breadcrumb "trail" to go to that part of the site. You may also use your browser's back and forward buttons.
If you have a specific area of interest, for example, a certain marine invertebrate, you may want to search only the Marine Life encyclopedia. In this case, go to the "Books" drop-down menu on the green bar at the top, and click "Marine Life of the Pacific Northwest" and you will be taken to the home page for that book. A search window specific to that book will appear. Remember though, there is also information about common invertebrates on the Encyclopedia of BC site, though the information may be more general.
Most home pages have an "Index" link on the left that will provide an alphabetical index for users who want to browse the site, and/or a "Contents" link that provides a linked list of chapters and subsections.
For information specific to searching a particular reference on the KnowBC site, go to the home page for that book (using the "Books" drop-down menu) and click on the link title on the left beginning “Using.”
