ACTIVE PASS, connecting GEORGIA STRAIT and the inner waters of the GULF ISLANDS between MAYNE and GALIANO Islands, is the route followed by BC FERRIES travelling between TSAWWASSEN and Swartz Bay. It is named for the US survey ship that first navigated the pass in 1855. It is an excellent viewing area for many types of seabirds and large marine mammals that congregate to feed on the fish and plankton churned up by the current.
