Alliford Bay

ALLIFORD BAY, 12 km west of SANDSPIT, on the south shore of Skidegate Inlet in the QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS, was selected by Sir George Doughty, president of BC Fisheries Ltd, as the site of a "model cannery town" in 1911. The project attracted workers from Britain but went into receivership in 1913 and was taken over by Maritime Fisheries Ltd, which operated a smaller cannery until 1927.
