ANNANCE, Francis Noel, fur trader (b 1789, St Francis, QC; d there circa 1851). Part Abenaki, part French Canadian, he joined the NORTH WEST CO and moved to the Columbia District to work as a trapper (see FUR TRADE). Following the 1821 merger with the HBC he stayed on as a clerk and later served as postmaster.
