ASBESTOS, a fibrous mineral used for fireproofing and insulation and in a variety of products, was produced in BC from 1952 to 1991 at a mine on McDame Mt north of DEASE LK. The community of CASSIAR, which developed as a townsite for the mine, was abandoned and sold off when the mine closed.
