Aspen Grove

ASPEN GROVE, 22 km southeast of MERRITT, was a stop on the old stagecoach road from Merritt to PRINCETON and a centre for ranchers (see CATTLE INDUSTRY) and prospectors. It is named for the region's bountiful trembling aspen trees. About 1900 the area was thought to be rich in COPPER, but large-scale MINING never took place. A coffee shop and gas station are located here.
