Athans, George Demetrie

ATHANS, George Demetrie, diving champion, (b 4 Jan 1921, Vancouver; d there 27 Feb 2007). He joined the front ranks of Canadian divers in 1936 when he won the Canadian championship and went to the Berlin Olympics at age 15. He was Canadian champion for 4 more years as well as western US and US Pacific coast intercollegiate champion while attending the Univ of Washington 1938–42 and earning a degree in medicine.
