Auklet


AUKLET is a small, dark grey seabird. Auklets nest in island colonies, in long burrows excavated in the soft ground; they feed out at sea by diving for fish and planktonic shrimp. Two species are present in BC. About 80% of all the world's Cassin's auklets (Ptychoramphus aleuticus) nest along the outer coast, about 1 million on TRIANGLE ISLAND alone.
