BC TEACHERS' FEDERATION was formed in Vancouver in 1916 as a federation of local teacher associations with the dual aim of improving public education and representing the interests of the province's 2,064 teachers. Membership grew slowly until the 1930s, when the federation expanded to include two-thirds of the teacher population.
