BATEMAN, Robert McLellan, artist (b 24 May 1930, Toronto). He grew up in Toronto, where he became fascinated with the natural world and began drawing animal subjects from a young age. After studying geography at the Univ of Toronto he became a schoolteacher in 1955 and for 20 years taught in Toronto and Burlington, taking time out to travel all over the world.
