BEAVEN, Robert, businessman, politician, premier 13 June 1882–29 Jan 1883 (b 28 Jan 1836, Leigh, England; d 18 Sept 1920, Victoria). He immigrated with his family to Toronto as a child and after graduating from Upper Canada College came west with friends. After trying his luck in the goldfields, he settled in 1866 in VICTORIA and became a successful insurance broker and importer.
