BELL, Jack, farmer, philanthropist (b 28 Feb 1913, Montreal; d 1 Feb 2006, Vancouver). Sometimes called "the Cranberry King," he planted BC's first commercial CRANBERRY crop in RICHMOND in 1946 and is credited with founding the local industry. Very successful in his agricultural enterprises, he became one of the province's leading philanthropists.
