BOWES, Sarah, teacher, temperance advocate (b 28 June 1834, Milton, ON; d 12 Sept 1911, Milton, ON). A schoolteacher and activist with the Women's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU), she moved west to VANCOUVER in 1886. She became a home visitor for the METHODIST CHURCH and a teacher at a church-run school for CHINESE people, as well as continuing her involvement in the WCTU.
