BRISCO, pop 138, lies on the COLUMBIA R 75 km south of GOLDEN. It is a small service centre and entry point for the nearby BUGABOO Glacier Provincial PARK (136.47 sq km). Originally known as Columbia Valley, it was renamed for Arthur Brisco, a hero of the British army's famed Charge of the Light Brigade in the Crimean War and an officer with the Palliser Expedition to western Canada 1857–60.
