Buckley Bay

BUCKLEY BAY, on the northwest shore of Masset Inlet in the QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS, was the site of a large SAWMILL from 1918 to 1924. Sitka SPRUCE, valued for its lightness and strength, was cut here during WWI and used to build Mosquito fighter-bombers and other planes. The mill initially employed 400 people, but demand for spruce fell after the war. Named after Frank Buckley of the Masset Timber Co, the bay is now deserted.
