BURNS BOG is an unusual WETLAND located in DELTA, south of RICHMOND on the way to the US border, between the FRASER R and BOUNDARY BAY. Thousands of years old, it is composed primarily of sphagnum MOSS that forms layers of peat—slowly decaying plant material—when it dies. It is 40 sq km in size, the largest domed peat bog in N America, and provides a home to 24 species of mammals and 150 species of birds.
