BUTCHART, Robert Pim, industrialist (b 30 Mar 1856, Owen Sound, ON; d 27 Oct 1943, Victoria). After working in the family hardware business he established the first Portland cement company in Canada in 1888. He and his wife Jennie (1868–1950) moved west in 1903 to establish a cement plant in TOD INLET on the SAANICH PENINSULA north of VICTORIA.
