CARTER-COTTON, Francis Lovett, journalist, politician (b 11 Oct 1843, London, England; d 20 Nov 1919, Vancouver). Fleeing from creditors in Colorado, he arrived in VANCOUVER in 1886 and secured a job with the Advertiser newspaper. The next year he bought the paper and merged it with a competitor, the News, continuing as editor and owner of the Daily News-Advertiser until 1910.
