Cary Fir


CARY FIR is a mythical giant tree said to have been harvested in 1895 in Lynn Valley on the north shore of BURRARD INLET by George Cary, a local logger. The story began as a hoax in 1922, supported by a photograph of a very large tree and by fake statistics: overall length 417 feet (127.2 m), diameter of stump 25 feet (7.6 m), height to first limb 300 feet (91.5 m), diameter of bole at first limb 9 feet (2.75 m), thickness of bark 16.5 inches (41.9 cm), age 1,800 years.
