CASCADIA has 2 meanings. It is first of all a geographical region (see PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY), encompassing BC, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and northern California. The region has characteristics that differ from the rest of the continent, making it a distinct geographical, economic, cultural and ecological unit.
