CHANDLER, William, marathon runner (b 10 Feb 1883, Beautiful Plains, MB; d 1957). Running for the VANCOUVER Athletic Club he became one of N America's top marathoners. Almost unbeatable over distances of between 5 and 15 miles (8–24 km), he won the Pacific Coast Championship 4 times and consistently defeated the best runners the USA offered.
