CHILLIWACK LAKE, 12.1 sq km, is nestled in the CASCADE MTS next to the US border southeast of CHILLIWACK. It drains west through the VEDDER and Chilliwack rivers to the FRASER R. Originally occupied by the STO:LO First Nation, the valley was first visited by outsiders when fur traders arrived from FORT LANGLEY in 1828 (see FUR TRADE, LAND-BASED).
