COLLINS OVERLAND TELEGRAPH CO was an attempt to create a communications link between N America and Europe by running a telegraph line from San Francisco through BC and Alaska and across Bering Strait to Siberia. The project was initiated by an American promoter, Perry Collins, and financed by the Western Union Telegraph Co.
