Commodore Ballroom


COMMODORE BALLROOM has been a downtown VANCOUVER landmark for over 70 years. It opened on Granville St as the Commodore Cabaret in Dec 1929 and quickly established itself as the most popular nightclub in the city, principally because of its spring-loaded maple dance floor. Through the 1930s and 1940s it featured a mix of local and touring bands, including all the big names of the swing era: Tommy Dorsey, Cab Calloway and Count Basie, to name just three.
