COOTE, Russell L. "Ginger," bush pilot (b 1899, Chilliwack; d Jan 1970, Chilliwack). A fighter pilot during WWI, he later came to personify the dashing, intrepid bush pilot of the 1930s. After acquiring a private pilot's licence in 1929 he flew for Wells Air Transport, one of the pioneering aviation companies of the early 1930s that serviced the GOLD MINING camps in the BRIDGE R area.
