CRESCENT VALLEY, 20 km west of NELSON on the CPR and the east side of the Slocan R, was the site of one of the largest SAWMILLS in the KOOTENAY, built in 1907 by Joe Patrick, father of the HOCKEY legends Lester and Frank PATRICK. Logs were driven to the mill down the Little Slocan R. A crescent-shaped hill behind the valley gave the settlement its name.
