DAWSON, George Mercer, geologist (b 1 Aug 1849, Pictou, NS; d 2 Mar 1901, Ottawa). Dawson was one of the leading Canadian geologists of his generation, and his field trips through BC made major contributions to our understanding of the geographic complexities of BC and to economic development in the province.
