DEWDNEY, Edgar, engineer, politician, lt gov 1892–97 (b 5 Nov 1835, Bideford, England; d 8 Aug 1916, Victoria). Trained as an engineer, he immigrated to BC in 1859 and got a job surveying the townsite for NEW WESTMINSTER. The following year he won a contract to build a road from HOPE eastward to WILD HORSE CRK, the so-called DEWDNEY TRAIL.
