DIAMOND HEAD is a peak in southern GARIBALDI PROVINCIAL PARK near Mt Garibaldi. In 1946 Emil and Ottar Brandvold, two brothers, joined Joan Matthews (later Mrs Ottar Brandvold) to open a ski lodge below the peak beside the Elfin Lakes, the first private SKIING lodge in BC. It was a popular destination with hikers and skiers from around the world until it closed in 1972. The building was still standing in 1999.
