DODD, Charles, ship's captain, trader (b 29 Nov 1808, New Buckenham, England; d 2 June 1860, Victoria). He joined the HBC in 1833 and two years later became second mate on the steamship BEAVER, travelling with the vessel on its inaugural voyage from England to the Pacific coast. Until 1842 he served as mate on different HBC ships plying the FUR TRADE along the coast as far north as Alaska.
