Doriston

DORISTON, originally known as Shaw Cove after the first settler, is an isolated settlement on the west shore of SECHELT INLET on the SUNSHINE COAST, 28 km north of SECHELT. Herbert Whitaker built a SAWMILL here at the turn of the century and a school opened in 1918. LOGGING, commercial FISHING and AGRICULTURE supported residents, most of whom had moved elsewhere by the 1960s.
