ELIZA Y REVENTA, Francisco de, Spanish naval officer (b 1759, Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain; d 19 Feb 1825, Cádiz, Spain). He arrived in Mexico in 1789 among other young officers to strengthen the naval base at San Blas and Spain's maritime presence in the N Pacific. After the NOOTKA SOUND CONTROVERSY he established a settlement and fort at YUQUOT in 1790; he maintained this outpost through 2 winters until handing it over to BODEGA Y QUADRA in 1792.
