FERNIE, William, prospector (b 2 Apr 1837, Kimbolton, England; d 15 May 1921, Victoria). After travelling extensively in Australia and N and S America, he arrived in BC in 1860 and headed for REVELSTOKE to prospect for GOLD. His search took him to the CARIBOO and then to the BOUNDARY DISTRICT, where he worked on the construction of the DEWDNEY TRAIL.
