FISHERIES RENEWAL BC was a government agency established in 1997 to deal with problems affecting the BC FISHING industry. Directed by a board of representatives from government, FIRST NATIONS, fishing communities and the industry, the agency was granted $22.5 million for its first 3 years. Responsibilities included restoring fish habitat, developing seafood markets, planning community-based fisheries and advising governments on fishing issues.
