Flatfish

FLATFISH is a general fisheries term, inclusive of FLOUNDER, HALIBUT, SOLE and TURBOT. In descending order of abundance, commercial trawl flatfish catches include Dover sole, arrowtooth flounder (turbot) and rock sole. Pacific halibut are landed primarily by hook and line in the commercial fisheries. There are also recreational fisheries for flatfish. See also FISHING, COMMERCIAL; FISHING, SPORT.
