FORT CONNOLLY was an HBC trading post established in 1827 at the north end of Bear Lk (19.7sq km) in the mountainous Interior north of BABINE LK. The lake drains via the Sustut R into the headwaters of the SKEENA R and is rich in SALMON; the post was expected to supply food as well as furs. A traditional meeting place of DAKELH (Carrier), GITKSAN and SEKANI people, all of whom traded here, Fort Connolly closed in the 1890s.
