GENTILE, Charles, merchant, photographer (b 1835, Italy; d 1893, Chicago). He arrived in VICTORIA in 1862 and lived there for 4 years. Initially he operated a "fancy goods" store, then added a PHOTOGRAPHY studio. He took some of the earliest photographs of BC aboriginals, as well as of the GOLD mining camps of the Interior. He left BC for San Francisco in 1866.
