GIBSON, William, writer (b 17 Mar 1948, Conway, SC). He moved to Toronto when he was 18 years old to avoid the US military draft and came to VANCOUVER in 1972. After attending UBC he began writing science fiction and sold his first story in 1981. His first novel, Neuromancer (1985), which won several awards, introduced the grim, computer-generated world of cyberspace; this world was revisited in 2 subsequent novels, Count Zero (1986) and Mona Lisa Overdrive (1988).
