GILBERT, Walter Edwin, aviator (b 8 Mar 1899, Cardinal, ON; d 18 Oct 1986). He joined the Royal Flying Corps during WWI and saw action in France. Following the war he worked as a commercial pilot, mainly in northern Canada. He spent much of his career as a bush pilot along the Mackenzie R and the Arctic coast, experiences he recorded in his 1939 memoir, Arctic Pilot.
