GLEN VOWELL, pop 233, is a GITKSAN community on the SKEENA R 5 km north of HAZELTON. It was created in 1898 by members of a dozen families who had become adherents of the Salvation Army and wanted to live apart from the main community at KISPIOX. It was named for A.W. Vowell, commissioner of Indian Affairs at the time.
