Goldstream Provincial Park

GOLDSTREAM PROVINCIAL PARK straddles the Island Highway, 16 km north of VICTORIA. Established in 1958, the park celebrates a long history of use by FIRST NATIONS and local settlers, and features 3.88 sq km of luxuriant forest and coastal ESTUARY habitats. The name derives from a minor GOLD RUSH in the 1860s. The Goldstream R was the site of a HYDROELECTRIC plant from 1897 to 1957. The annual fall SALMON spawning season in the river is a major attraction.
